Fishing North Georgia

Dicks Creek, Ga.  May 2017 What a special stream. From the large impressive waterfalls to the small tributaries upstream, this stream is a gem. The Forest Service road provides easy access along the main stream, parking is good and short walks to the good fishing spots make it easy. It also has a short section of "large" stream fishing near the new check-in station. It seems most people fish near the heavily stocked area near the bridge to Waters Creek road. This pool at the top of the most upper falls and just upstream from the confluence with Waters Creek. There is a lots of parking here. This leads to some crowded fishing in this area. Just down stream the falls and area below the falls can be fished. The only drawback here are the crowds in the late Spring until early Fall. The falls have some major pools that draw swimmers in until around early October. As as side note, the trash left by the swimmers is unbelievable. I picked up about twenty five-gallon buckets aft

I recently made a visit on a cold Spring day to Smiths Creek DH. I signed in at the State Park Inn and proceed to the parking area below the dam. It had been raining, so the stream was up but still very fishable. There were a few fly fisherman, and watching them; they were doing well with wet drys and trout worms. They mostly just used the length of the rod to let the "fly" float downstream, good method in a small stream. I walked a distance down to get out of their way and only had one come down to the first spot I picked after about an 30 minutes. I must say, I'm impressed with this place. It has good trail access along the stream. I continued down stream and soon found no one other than hikers on the trail. The fishing was good. I caught about ten in about two hours. There are some good pools, perfect casting angles for spinner fisherman even from the bank. It had some larger trout as most DH areas do. I caught a colorful Brown Trout. Boggs Creek, Ga. Fishing May 12, 2019 I know a lot of people put this area down since a tornado flatted the trees on the eastern side of this stream in April 2011. Since then the camping area has been closed and the area is now day use only. Many of the trees downed by the tornado, or leftover from the salvage logging that followed, are in the stream making a mess as far as casting, but it is great natural habitat for trout. The hillside to east on the north side of Bee Tree Ridge is flatten. It does open views to the ridges to the east including the rocks on Cowrock Mountain, best seen in the winter. I also like how clean the area is.       I have been fishing this area the past few months. So I have seen it go thru Fall, Winter, and now Spring. I have not caught any large trout there.
